Special issue on “Forest dynamics under anthropogenic disturbances and global climate change”

Special Issue on ‘Forest dynamics under anthropogenic disturbances and global climate change’ in International Journal of Ecology and Environmental Sciences (National Institute of Ecology, New Delhi)

Anthropogenic disturbances and land-use changes are the main drivers of forest dynamics. Determination of long-term spatio-temporal characteristics of ecological disturbance is essential for understanding forest dynamics and its shifts under global climate changes. Disturbances shape forest landscape patterns and processes over years, as changes in disturbance characteristics are responsible for the forest responses to environmental change. Besides, forest plays a central role in climate change mitigation and also helps forests and forest-dependent communities to adapt to new conditions caused by climate change. Sustainable forest management contributes to food security, poverty alleviation, economic development, and sustainable land use as well as it secures the survival of forest ecosystems and enhances their environmental, socio-cultural, and economic functions.

The articles in this Special Issue will cover the varied aspects of tropical forest dynamics including forest cover change, biodiversity pattern, mapping, quantitative assessment, and detailed ecological analysis of forests, biomass and carbon stock assessment, plant distribution patterns, ecological niche modelling of RET plant species, plant invasion, forest health and its biophysical parameters, and so on in terms field-based observation and remote sensing-based approaches. It will help in understanding the extent of forest resources, their conditions, managements, and sustainable uses.
