Call for Papers Special Issue on Forest Fires: Science and Society

The International Journal of Ecology and Environmental Sciences (IJEES), the official Journal of the National Institute of Ecology (NIE), India

First launched in 1974 at the INTECOL’s First Ecology Congress in The Hague.

Online and OPEN ACCESS

The threat of increasing forest fires is unfolding across the world. The continuous heating of the planet is turning forests and other landscapes into tinderboxes. Climate change and forest fires reinforce each other, forest fires today are bigger, more intense, and longer than those experienced in the past.  Insistent warmer and drier weather due to changing climate and increasing anthropogenic activities are the major drivers behind increasing forest fire events worldwide. If these trends continue millions of extra tonnes of carbon stored in forest biomass, loss of biodiversity, and decline in ecosystem services will have devastating impacts on economies and livelihoods, and severe impact on health problems for millions across the world. Our understanding of forest fires is limited largely because of a lack of evidence and due to continuous changes made by humankind in the conditions where forest fires take place.

The increasing incidences of “wild” and “landscape fires” have raised concerns amongst academicians, scientists, policymakers and political leaders across the globe. It is well understood that the craft of forest fire management is highly complex and far more intricate than we assume.

The increasing incidences of “wild” and “landscape fires” have raised concerns amongst academicians, scientists, policymakers, and political leaders across the world. Considering it as one of the most topical issues of global significance, the editorial board of IJEES is inviting papers on Forest Fires “Forest Fires: Science and Society”.

We are inviting all scientists and experts performing research in relevant or connected areas to submit their manuscript (s).  The scope of the special issue is beyond disciplinary boundaries, we are considering manuscripts from different disciplines including concerning scientific and ecological understanding, technological advancement, and socio-cultural and political aspects concerning forest fires.

Deadline for submission of abstract: 30th September 2022  to the guest editor by e-mail

Submission of Full paper: 31st December 2022 in the editorial system of the journal with a copy to guest editor by e-mail
