Land use intensification in Indian Himalaya: Meaning, measurement and implications

Abstract


Land use intensification is a crucial process influencing biodiversity, ecosystem functions and livelihoods.  There are multiple ways of defining and measuring intensification.  This article present a review of the meaning, methods of measurement and ecological implications of land use intensification, with special reference to central Himalayan region of India.
